No, I'm not just talking about Chris and Amy's dance moves. I'm talking about Restaurant Grace, the beautiful renovated Chestnut Street Church in Portland, ME. The bride, groom, and family will be gathering at the bar of this restaurant on Friday July 6th, the evening before the wedding.  If you are in town early, please join us for cocktails at the bar around 9pm. We'd love to see you the night before the big day.

So you've made your plans to travel to Portland, Maine in August.  You have your hotel reservations.  Next question is, "What do I wear!?"  We'll try and make it easy for you.

August 7 will be a bright beautiful day, so be prepared for some sun and warmth during the day.  However, once the sun goes down, it can get a bit chilly.  So, ladies, please be prepared with a shawl, pashmina, or light jacket.  Gentlemen, you should be fine in your shirt/jacket.  Additionally, since the ceremony takes place on the beach, high heels may not be the best idea, unless you have extensive practice walking on sand in high heels.  We will have sunblock and bug spray available if needed as well.  Overall, the wedding isn't formal, so have fun with the attire.  No tuxedos please!

Whoopie pies...mmm.  YUM, just writing this post is making me hungry.  :)  These tasty treats are a New England delicacy and a Pennsylvania Amish tradition. Can you believe whoopie pies have a Wikipedia entry?  I found out these desserts were baked by Amish women with left over cake batter. The ladies would pack them in the Amish men's lunch boxes, and legend has it the men would yell "WHOOPIE!" when they found them in their lunch box.  I think I used to do the same thing in school when my mom packed them for me.  Who wouldn't?  If you have never had a whoopie pie before, they are created with two light fluffy chocolate round cakes and sandwiched together with a sweet frosting in the middle.  You are in luck, because Chris and I are going to have whoopie pies for you to snack on at our wedding! If you want the recipe, just email me and I'll share it with you.  Or...you can even find it on epicurious (or a version of my recipe anyways).  It is a no fail, crowd pleaser...I promise.

This is a Fuller family photo taken when I was six days old from my maternal grandparents front yard on Long Island. That is me in my dad's arms, and clockwise from him are my sisters, Jessica and Annika, and in front is my mom.  From that point on, we spent all our summers on Long Island. Both my maternal and paternal grandparents owned summer cottages on either side of East End Beach, seen in the background of this photo. Eventually my parents built a summer cottage on the property behind my paternal grandparent's house. My summers were filled with hermit crab races, treasure hunting, searching tide pools for sea creatures, toasting marshmallows around a bonfire, waterskiing and sunsets on Cleaves Beach. What makes me smile is that summer trips home to Long Island haven't changed as I enter my 30's.  Long Island has a way of bringing out childhood fun and innocence in a way that makes me feel so lucky to have it. My grandfather Al Fuller used to say "Welcome to Paradise" to new-comers visiting East End Beach, and he couldn't have put it better. As soon as Chris and I began wedding planning, there was no better location to have the wedding. It is a place that I cherish more and more as I get older, and I know will be a piece of me and my family for the rest of my life.

What have we done since Friday, February 5, 2010?  Nothing but shovel snow, play with our dog, eat tons of food, watch old Arrested Development episodes, and start our wedding website.  The Washington DC area got hit with 25 inches of snow, the 4th biggest snowstorm in the region's history.  It was quite a scene, as you can see above.

Roscoe has been training to enter the Iditarod...if only we had known his affinity for leaping through the snow, we would have purchased a toboggan and harnessed him up in front of us to navigate the unplowed streets of the District.  It is 3 days post-storm, and we have yet to see a snow plow come down Quincy Place, NW.  So, we've been hoofing it around town...rescuing stranded motorists who thought it would be a good idea to slam on the gas pedal of their Ford Mustang in a foot of snow with 6 inches of ice below.

Our kitchen has been filled with the delicious smells of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, double dark chocolate brownies and carrot cake cupcakes.  Writing that down was the first time I thought, wow maybe too many sweets for one weekend?  Nah, you always need a sweet treat after playing for hours out in the snow!  Stay tuned...word on the street is that 5-10 more inches of the white fluffy stuff is headed our way tomorrow!!!!
